Here was me last month: Sadly my series reading has been neglected for the last couple of years except for those I’m totally devoted to. Here’s me this month: I read 13 books this month and DNF’d 3. Of those 13 books 12 were series books. And I started 4 totally new-to-me series. When will the madness stop? Never!
I started a new feature called Prequels & Sequels. Prequels & Sequels features books past and present that have impacted an author’s life from childhood through today. Steve Hockensmith and Sofie Kelly were February’s P&S authors. Author Linda Castillo has accepted my P&S invite with no run date scheduled due to her writing deadline so you’ll need to check back every so often or subscribe so you don’t miss her post.
New-to-me series
1) The 7th Victim by Alan Jacobson. I thought it was a pretty solid debut novel (at the time) with a few misses here and there. And it definitely ends with an UNSUB I never suspected.
2) You Slay Me by Katie MacAlister. Loved it! It’s smart, LOL funny, murderous and sexy (which I wasn’t expecting). I’m so looking forward to reading the next book in the series. I was a bit hesitant because I wasn’t sure how far out there the fantasy/paranormal aspects might get. I needn’t have worried and I was hooked from the get go.
3) Shadowland by Meg Cabot. I really like this paranormal YA series. Our mediator Suze is smart, spunky and wise, or not, depending on the ghost. She’s your typical high school student with one unique aspect – she’s see ghosts. Not only does she see them she helps them on their way. Sometimes it’s takes a little muscle to get the ghost to move on but they eventually see things Suze’s way.
4) Curiosity Thrilled the Cat by Sofie Kelly. Loved it! A charming cozy mystery laced with humor. And it has two great feline sleuths who I’m totally infatuated with. I’m looking forward to book #2 in this series so Amazon please put up the pre-order button for Sleight of Paw.
5) Hostile Witness by William Lashner. DNF’d @ pg 75.
Returning series
1)Murder Game by Christine Feehan. Well I called it quits with this series in the middle of book #7 (pg 186). I’m glad this was a library book and not one I’d paid good money for. While I enjoy scorching hot sex scenes they seem to have taken over this series. I can’t turn a page without the lead characters mashing up against one another. I’ll miss the GhostWalkers as they are a unique group of men but constantly putting bodies together isn’t enough to keep me coming back for more. This series definitely needs more strength in the story lines and to turn down the heat.
2) Final Warning by James Patterson
3) A Wedding to Die For by Leann Sweeney
4) Double Dog Dare by Linda O. Johnston. I got one thing to say – lose Jeff, write him out.
5) World’s Greatest Sleuth! by Steve Hockensmith
6) The Trouble with Witches by Shirley Damsgaard
7) Romancing Mr. Bridgerton by Julia Quinn
Eight) Breaking Silence by Linda Castillo. Fans of this series hit the pre-order button at your favorite online retailer or visit a brick & mortar store and get it ordered.
9) Treachery in Death by J.D. Robb. If one has read all 40 books in the series does that make ‘em a fan? Hell yes!
I’m listening to The Mediator series. I just finished book 3 Reunion. I have book 4, but won’t be able to start it until next week (I have another book I need to listen to first). I’m really enjoying it so far. The narrator is doing a great job.
Curiosity Thrilled the Cat looks cute. I’m starting to see it everywhere. I downloaded the sample on my Kindle. It sounds like a series I may enjoy.
I have the rest of The Mediator series on my library wish list. Too bad Curiosity isn’t a Kindle lendable.
